Between+betwixt is a performance created by visual artist Anthoula Bourna and cellist Michael Heupel. The two performers create a symbolic procession in which the audience is obligated to follow them, in order to take part in it. The performance uses ritualistic elements (masks, use of music, emblematic character of the procession a.s.o.) without a preconceived symbolic content. The music switches between contemporary works by William Walton, György Ligeti and Tilo Medek, baroque classics like the suites by Johann Sebastian Bach and even free improvisation. Like a moving concert, the performance aims to take the audience through a spacial-temporal as well as a mental process.
